[15:19:30] -!- cubi_ [cubi_!~mcd@p54BB026A.dip.t-dialin.net] has joined #milestone-modding
[15:21:44] <pontomedon> i just tried to partition my sd card with parted in OR, i resized the fat32 partition, created a 1gb partition at the end, format it ext2
[15:21:56] <pontomedon> now i tried to convert the ext2 partition to ext4
[15:22:09] <pontomedon> i found a tutorial and did the following:
[15:22:20] <pontomedon> tune2fs -j /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
[15:22:22] cubi_ is now known as cubi
[15:22:28] <pontomedon> according to the tutorial it should be ext3 now
[15:23:29] <pontomedon> the tutorial says it to do a "tune2fs -O dir_index,uninit_bg /dev/block/mmcblk0p2" now, i added the ^huge_file, so i executed "tune2fs -O dir_index,uninit_bg,^huge_file /dev/block/mmcblk0p2"
[15:24:09] <pontomedon> but OR doesn't mount it (displays error mounting /dev/block/mmcblk0p2) on startup, and ubuntu doesn't mount the ext partition either
[15:25:08] <pontomedon> any clues what might be the problem?
[15:27:51] <pontomedon> ubuntu's dmesg tells me that the group descriptors are corrupted
[15:28:47] <pontomedon> but i can't execute e2fsck in OR, "invalid filesystem option set: ^gdt_checksum"
[15:30:00] <pontomedon> is there a way to fix it in OR?
[15:35:53] <nadlabak> pontomedon: my guess is tune2fs -O ^gdt_checksum /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 :)
[15:36:32] <nadlabak> pontomedon: you converted from ext2 to ext4 under ubuntu? why not directly in OR?
[15:36:41] <pontomedon> no, i did it in OR
[15:40:39] <nadlabak> pontomedon: I also used parted directly in OR, resized fat32, created ext2, converted to ext3
[15:41:01] <pontomedon> oh sorry, i pasted the wrong error message before: e2fsck errors out with "/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 has unsupported feature(s): gdt_checksum - Get a newer version of e2fsck!"
[15:41:03] <pontomedon> i already tried to remove gdt_checksum with tune2fs, this errors out with the message i pasted before: "Invalid filesystem option set: ^gdt_checksum"
[15:41:34] <nadlabak> I ended with ext3, I haven't tried to convert to ext4...
[15:41:45] <pontomedon> mhm ok
[15:41:46] <nadlabak> I'll test it later
[15:42:08] <pontomedon> so after creating the ext2 partition the following steps should be sufficient:
[15:42:26] <nadlabak> I was very happy that the fat resize worked flawlessly under OR :)
[15:42:35] <pontomedon> tune2fs -j /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
[15:42:35] <pontomedon> tune2fs -O ^huge_file /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
[15:43:25] <pontomedon> yes, quite cool to have a full featured parted in recovery :)
[15:43:38] <nadlabak> the huge_file option is needed to be disabled only if it was enabled before, like when ext4 was formatted under some linux system that sets it on by default
[15:44:09] <pontomedon> ok, so it shouldn't be necessary if the partition was created with parted in OR
[15:44:17] <nadlabak> yes
[15:44:20] <nadlabak> exactly
[15:44:24] <pontomedon> ok thnx
[15:44:37] <pontomedon> (15:41:46) (@nadlabak) I'll test it later <-- would be cool, but i guess ext3 is sufficient :)

[20:38:13] <KabaLF> endstille: check the channel logs
[20:38:56] <KabaLF> I've reported that to nadlabak yesterday, along with the reason why it wasn't building (some stuff that didn't get merged by then)
[20:39:57] <KabaLF> nadlabak did merge the missing code a few hours ago though, so if you do a repo sync and try again, you should no longer have any problems
[20:40:17] <endstille> ah, so i will wait for further commits ;) thx
[20:42:33] <endstille> hmm, i just tried it halb an hour ago... will try again ;)
[20:43:26] <KabaLF> try again... a said a few hours ago, but the gingerbread commits were more like half hour ago :-P
[20:45:12] <KabaLF> and after repo sync'ing, do a make clean && make clobber , just in case
[20:45:39] <KabaLF> actually, just make clobber will do, make clean is redudant :P
[20:48:21] <endstille> okay thx :)
[20:51:16] <KabaLF> i think I'm the only one that never knew about the Android easter egg on gingerbread :P
[20:51:52] <endstille> :o what easteregg?
[20:52:07] <KabaLF> I only got to know it because I saw a video of a guy doing it on ICS (obviously the easter egg is different, but the trigger is the same)
[20:52:29] <KabaLF> open Settings > About
[20:52:31] <endstille> then... you are not the only one, lol
[20:52:31] <endstille> i have no idead
[20:52:43] <endstille> yea
[20:52:47] <KabaLF> then tap "Android version" repeatedly, a few times
[20:53:12] <endstille> ahhhh :D i have seen this in a video, too one or two weeks ago.... hehe
[20:53:29] <endstille> zombieeeee ^__^
[20:53:32] <KabaLF> the ICS one is obviously much more nice/funnier
[20:54:18] <endstille> hmpf now i get: error: .repo/manifests/: contains uncommited changes
[20:54:20] <KabaLF> Froyo doesn't seem to have it though, 'cause I've tried on another MS I have here with CM6, and it doesn't work
[20:54:28] <endstille> i think i have to wait some more time
[20:54:34] <KabaLF> no
[20:54:49] <KabaLF> you probably have modified your default.xml manifest
[20:54:54] <endstille> yes
[20:55:03] <endstille> i changed git:// to https
[20:55:09] <KabaLF> probably to adjust for the github derp on prebuilt
[20:55:09] <endstille> otherwise it would not let me finish sync
[20:55:09] <KabaLF> yes
[20:55:14] <endstille> stopped at 94%
[20:55:37] <KabaLF> go into the root of your cm tree
[20:55:44] <KabaLF> type cd android
[20:55:53] <endstille> i did
[20:55:56] <KabaLF> git reset --hard
[20:56:18] <KabaLF> then cp default.xml ../.repo/manifests/default.xml
[20:56:24] <KabaLF> then try repo sync again
[20:57:04] <endstille> ahhh works
[20:57:08] <endstille> awesome
[21:00:39] <endstille> hmm, maybe that question is stupid, but can i also try compiling ICS with my repo, or do i need to checkout another one?
[21:00:44] <endstille> i'm all new to this ;)
[21:01:24] <KabaLF> you can, but you have to switch branches first
[21:01:32] <endstille> because i can see, ICS is just beeing synced as well
[21:01:36] <KabaLF> and download ics stuff as a result
[21:02:09] <KabaLF> not as much as if you cloned the repo from scratch, but you'd still have to download stuff
[21:02:21] <endstille> ahhh, i will check, once GB works :D
[21:02:32] <endstille> thanks anyway ;) great channel here
[21:03:27] <endstille> i do make clobber in cm4mm, right?
[21:03:27] <endstille> or do i need to swich in build folder?
[21:04:01] <KabaLF> run . build/envsetup.sh first
[21:04:14] <KabaLF> then run make clobber from cm root (cm55)
[21:04:24] <KabaLF> *cm44mm
[21:04:33] <KabaLF> jeez
[21:04:36] <KabaLF> *cm4mm
[21:04:40] <endstille> :>
[21:05:23] <endstille> btw. i found one channel durin my search today, that eben 8GB RAM would be way to less....
[21:05:24] <endstille> my notebook now just has 4GB
[21:06:00] <KabaLF> way too little for what?
[21:06:02] <KabaLF> compiling ics?
[21:06:05] <endstille> compiling
[21:06:47] <KabaLF> well, I compile GB on my MBP with 4gb just fine... takes about 30mins, which is about the average for other people around here
[21:07:09] <KabaLF> ICS should take about 2 hours, according to what people say here
[21:08:05] <KabaLF> using 8Gb or 16Gb is more about the recomended configuration, not a requirement... you just take longer to build it, that's all...
[21:08:33] <endstille> okay ;)
[21:09:12] <KabaLF> I know nadlabak compiles ICS on a VM with less 4gb, so there's no such thing as 8Gb being to little, as far as building requirement goes
[21:09:25] <KabaLF> *with less than
[21:10:02] <endstille> oaky, i thought the same, as i've read the specs in XDA channel of pentium4 and less then 4GB ram....
[21:10:24] <endstille> okay, compiling now and got to go .
[21:10:24] <endstille> thank you very much ;)
