[13:08:36] <nadlabak> Skrilax_CZ: we really have to find a way how to enable the swap
[13:09:21] <nadlabak> not for swap on sdcrad or nand but for zram swap
[13:10:10] <nadlabak> I'm testing 42MB zram and the difference in multitasking capability is massive
[13:10:33] <Skrilax_CZ> nadlabak: allright
[13:12:29] <Skrilax_CZ> I'll look on that on Friday
[13:12:49] <nadlabak> :)
[13:26:16] -!- KabaLF [KabaLF!~Fernando@c951aa36.virtua.com.br] has joined #milestone-modding
[13:31:24] <Skrilax_CZ> nadlabak: when you were enabling zram in the kernel, all you had to do was putting it into the drivers/staging and enabling in config?
[13:39:13] <KabaLF> nadlabak: didn't zram require swap? or has that changed?
[13:39:36] <nadlabak> Skrilax_CZ: There's a small patch to include/linux/blkdev.h and mm/swapfile.c needed
[13:41:39] <Skrilax_CZ> KabaLF: yeah it does, afaik
[13:42:01] <nadlabak> otherwise I compiled the zram module outside the kernel tree - I used the their original makefile, where you only specify the kernel tree location
[13:42:27] <KabaLF> I don't get it then, how did you test it? or were testing 42mb zram on some other device?
[13:42:41] <Skrilax_CZ> KabaLF: he has dev phone
[13:42:48] <KabaLF> oh, ok :)
[13:43:17] <Skrilax_CZ> nadlabak: can you post all the patchwork somewhere, so I can start from there?
[13:43:21] <nadlabak> so it's: that small patch, enable swap, build lzo_compress, lzo_decompress and zram modules
[13:43:59] <endstille> hm, that zram thing looks really interessting =) do you think it may improve the compiling notebook?
[13:44:22] <KabaLF> endstille: too little
[13:44:22] <nadlabak> Skrilax_CZ: yes, I'll upload it in the evening
[13:44:26] <Skrilax_CZ> ok
[13:45:07] <endstille> KabaLF: okay thanks =) nevertheless, i think it's worth the try :)
[13:47:21] <KabaLF> endstille: the constraint on netbooks are more on the cpu, not memory. any gains you get with memory will be more or less negated by the extra work the cpu will have (by compressing/decompressing the memory pages)
[13:48:05] <endstille> hmmm, but it's no netbook, it is a notebook with core2duo
[13:48:16] <endstille> i'll just test it, i have nothing to loose ;)
[13:48:37] <endstille> right now it takes 1hour to compile GB, i will enable, reboot and test again
[13:48:54] <KabaLF> how much memory do you have?
[13:49:01] <endstille> 4GB
[13:49:25] <KabaLF> then your problem is not memory, I can assure you :)
[13:49:28] <KabaLF> it's still cpu
[13:49:47] <KabaLF> I've got 4gb macbook pro, it takes about half an hour to compile GB
[13:49:58] <KabaLF> but the cpu is a core i5
[13:51:08] <endstille> hehe, okay
[13:52:14] <KabaLF> you're free to try though, shouldn't be hard to get it working. just noting that you'll probably won't notice any difference, for better or worse
[13:52:28] <KabaLF> are you using 32-bit or 64-bit linux?
[13:54:03] <endstille> i use 64bit ubuntu 12.04
[13:54:03] <endstille> my conky shows my ram and swap, so i will at least see the difference :D

[16:41:53] <endstille> hehe, zRam did not change anything, i started compiling 15:44 and it's soon finishing
[16:42:08] <endstille> so 1 hour is my time, i have to use another system, to be faster ^^
[16:42:48] <endstille> i should creat my powerfull NB as dualboot, but it's disk is too small :(
[16:43:32] <k1l_> endstille: you need more cpu. not ram
[16:44:20] <endstille> the "big" one has a corei7-2670QM
[16:44:43] <endstille> it also has much more ram, but also a faster cpu
[16:44:51] <endstille> lol done 16:44
[16:44:54] <endstille> exactly 1 hour
[16:48:09] <endstille> still a good price ;) http://www.cyberport.de/notebook/notebooks/1C26-8FP/acer-aspire-7750g-2674g50mnkk-core-i7-2670qm-16gb-hd6850m.html

[18:22:52] <TheSpiritof69> 24
[18:23:45] <vikas> TheSpiritof69: thanks

[18:55:54] <mioze7ae> I've seen claims that the default on froyo/eclair was 24mb, and on gingerbread it was 32mb. So apps that target gingerbread might require 32mb and have issues, but apps that target pre-gingerbread should be fine.
[18:58:09] <mioze7ae> nadlabak: ramz == compcache?
[18:58:50] -!- mifritscher has quit [Ping timeout: 255 seconds]
[18:59:46] <nadlabak> mioze7ae: yes, zram is newer version of compcache
[19:02:24] <nadlabak> I'm not aware of any app that has issues with 24MB heap size. And even if it has, it will very likely also have issues with 226MB RAM available in Milestone anyway :)
[19:03:42] <mioze7ae> Well, Angry Birds is a good example. It seems to need 48mb
[19:03:57] <nadlabak> no, it runs fine at 24MB heap
[19:04:48] <mioze7ae> Maybe some other problem then. But switching between 24/48 is the difference between starting and hanging.
[19:05:15] <mioze7ae> (I'm XT720, though so grains of salt)
[19:05:58] <KabaLF> no problems with Angry Birds Rio here either, with 24mb heap

[19:09:13] <emper0r> hi.. i try to update new cm7 7.1.5 but when i reboot the phone i push camera button ca't start OR,.. any idea?.. just out triangle without progressbar like extracting update.zip or inn into OR dirpath what i do?
[19:11:43] <KabaLF> try re-extracting a fresh download of OpenRecovery on your sd card, maybe something got corrupted in there.
[19:12:13] <KabaLF> and reflash the vulnerable recovery, for good measure
[19:12:56] <emper0r> the fresh download OR has new updates fixed of mmc and the other stuff?
[19:13:05] <emper0r> or have to donload that new too?
[19:13:09] <emper0r> as path?
[19:14:08] <KabaLF> no, you'll have to download everything and extract in order
[19:15:27] <mioze7ae> zram comes from http://code.google.com/p/compcache/ ?
[19:17:20] -!- n0life has quit [Quit: KTHXBYE]
[19:17:35] <KabaLF> zram was originally that, yes
[19:18:10] <KabaLF> then it got merged into mainline, and it's called zram since then
[19:18:30] <mioze7ae> Oh, I see. So for 2.6.29 I need to backport?
[19:18:38] <KabaLF> yup
[19:18:51] <mioze7ae> Gotcha, thanks!
[19:19:43] <mioze7ae> Mainline linux or mainline android or both?
[19:19:51] <emper0r> KabaLF: http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod4milestone/ here i have the update but not all OR where is the big package?
[19:20:05] <KabaLF> mainline linux
[19:20:06] <mioze7ae> you guys were right angry birds works fine with 24mb
[19:20:23] <mioze7ae> I could have sworn it kept getting stuck on the splash screen
[19:21:11] -!- stlifey_ has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
[19:21:28] <mioze7ae> KabaLF: thanks
[19:24:51] <nadlabak> mioze7ae: you'd see quite clear error message with dalvikvm-heap tag in logcat if the app would requested bigger heap than max allowed
[19:25:41] <mioze7ae> Ok, it must have been something else. There were never any messages, it used to just freeze but home would get back to the launcher.
[19:26:13] <mioze7ae> I will stop spreading falsehoods :D
[19:26:35] <emper0r> KabaLF: main line linux?

[19:27:54] <mioze7ae> By the way, on Milestone do you get those "can't disable core file creation" messages?
[19:28:26] <nadlabak> mioze7ae: yes, you can see it on every phone
[19:28:35] <nadlabak> mioze7ae: git clone https://code.google.com/p/compcache/
[19:28:36] milaq is now known as milaq|afk
[19:28:37] <mioze7ae> Ok
[19:29:08] <nadlabak> you'll see that there is a patch for 2.6.29 kernel
[19:29:35] <KabaLF> emper0r: that was for mioze7ae. what you're looking for is here: http://www.modmymobile.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=28089
[19:30:17] <emper0r> ok thx
[19:30:40] <KabaLF> or just download Androidiani OR from nadlabak's cm7 download page here, which is what's recommended by nadlabak http://code.google.com/p/androidiani-openrecovery/downloads/list
[19:30:56] <KabaLF> but I don't use it
[19:31:00] <emper0r> thats the big!!
[19:31:02] <emper0r> thanxs
[19:32:05] <nadlabak> I actually recommend to use any OR, original or clone that is based on 1.46
[19:32:27] <nadlabak> the androidiani one has the basebands
[19:32:51] <mioze7ae> nadlabak: BTW adding swap support looks like a real bear. All sorts of structs are different because symbols are redefined to disappear with swap disabled.
[19:33:38] <KabaLF> yup, by "recommended by nadlabak", I meant the one that's linked on your site
[19:34:32] <emper0r> ok extrac the big and insert the mino with the updates
[19:34:37] <emper0r> and copy into MM
[19:34:39] <emper0r> right?
[19:35:19] <KabaLF> into your sd card, right
[19:38:30] <emper0r> yes yes, sd
[19:38:33] <emper0r> thx
[19:39:06] <emper0r> hey nadlabak your last 7.1.5 have animation ics cool.. it possible to can adapt all ics or almost the mayor part into mm?
[19:39:38] <nadlabak> http://android.doshaska.net/cm9
[19:40:03] <emper0r> jajaja
[19:40:07] <emper0r> your done!! ???
[19:40:40] <nadlabak> done? not at all :)
[19:40:40] <emper0r> wow
[19:40:53] <emper0r> camera means?.. not photo
[19:53:29] <zewelor> nadlabak: are there any fix for not installed apps in market ? other that clearing market app cache and data ?
[19:53:44] <zewelor> bcoz i get error that very often :\
